Reading Activities for HomeIn addition to the specific reading goals outlined in your child's IEP, our class is always working on skills outlined in the Essential Elements of the Utah Common Core. There is one main skill I would suggest working on with your child.
This is a skill that can be used with any picture book you have at home or with any of the Dynamic Learning Maps Familiar Texts located at this link (then click on Familiar Texts). Please read through the picture book 2 times with your child. The first time you are introducing your child to the book and engaging them in the text. The second time you read through the text pause every couple pages to ask your child to point to obvious things in the pictures, WH questions (who, what, when, where, why questions). If you have difficulty thinking of questions or getting your child to respond to the question, just work on reading aloud to your child.
